Where you sleep

Quarters

Fourteen rooms on five floors. Quay side for the view and the early light, courtyard side for silence. Both have shutters that actually close.

Two aspects, one standard

Quay-side rooms look over the water and the working end of the harbour. You will hear the first boats around five, which some guests love and others do not. The shutters deal with the light; nothing deals with the gulls.

Courtyard rooms face inward over the old yard. They are darker, a couple of degrees cooler, and noticeably quieter. If you plan to be out late on the strip, ask for one of these and sleep until nine without effort.

Every room has a wool blanket over a proper duvet, cotton sheets, a wide desk, a kettle with real tea, filtered water, and a shower with pressure. There are no machines of any kind on the sleeping floors; the card room is on the top floor with its own stair.

Room by room

First floor

Chandler Single

A small courtyard room with a full-size bed and the original cupboard doors. Sensible for one person on a short stay.

Second floor

Quay Double

Two tall windows over the water and a window seat wide enough to sit in properly. The most requested room we have.

Second floor

Customs Double

Same size, courtyard side, several degrees quieter. Our recommendation for light sleepers.

Third floor

Pilot Room

A corner room with windows on two walls, a reading chair, and a deep bath rather than a shower.

Fourth floor

Loft Apartment

Beams, a separate sitting area, and a small kitchen. Suited to stays of four nights or more.
